J. Cole’s Surprise Return & The Drake vs. Kendrick Legal War

Just when we thought the rap world was settling into a quiet winter, J. Cole just shook the entire internet. With barely a week left before his highly anticipated album The Fall Off is expected to land, Cole dropped a brand new mixtape out of nowhere.

Now, this isn’t just a random drop. For years, fans spotted a mysterious project titled It’s a Boy in Cole’s early rollout sketches. We waited, we wondered, and finally, that patience has paid off. Legend Jada Kiss recently pulled back the curtain, revealing that Cole has been quietly cooking—stacking the project with classic LOX beats like “Money, Power, & Respect.” According to Jada, Cole “kills them shits.” No hype, just facts.

But why now? Jada Kiss suggests that once people hear this raw, confident version of Cole, the noise about him stepping away from the Drake and Kendrick battle won’t even matter.

And Cole isn’t staying silent anymore. In his new single “Port Antonio,” he directly addresses the “Big Three” war. He’s calling out both Drake and Kendrick Lamar for chasing clicks and money. Remember, Cole initially stepped back from the feud, calling his own Kendrick diss track “goofy” and a “misstep.” But in “Port Antonio,” he suggests he pulled the plug because he saw exactly where the drama was headed—and looking at the legal chaos happening now, he might have been right.

While Cole focuses on the music, the internet is digging into his past. A viral TikTok theory has brought his 2013 track “She Knows” back into the spotlight.

The theory links his lyrics to the tragic deaths of Aaliyah, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Michael Jackson—all of whom coincidentally passed away on the 25th of different months. While social media is buzzing with speculative claims involving names like Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Diddy, we have to be clear: there is no official evidence to support these conspiracies. It’s a classic example of how internet culture can take a tragic coincidence and fuel wild, unfounded claims.

Now, let’s talk about the real-world legal battle. Drake is taking his feud with Kendrick Lamar from the studio to the courtroom. Drake has amended his defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group, and he’s citing the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show as a major turning point.

Kendrick performed “Not Like Us” to a record-breaking 133 million people. Drake’s legal team argues that UMG used its leverage to orchestrate a “character assassination” on the world’s biggest stage. Even though Kendrick removed the word “pedophile” for the broadcast, Drake claims the damage was done. The suit also points to the Grammy Awards, where the song won five honors, claiming UMG’s promotion led to real-world consequences—including a shooting at Drake’s Toronto home.

UMG, however, isn’t backing down. They’ve called Drake’s legal moves “foolish theatrics,” suggesting he’s being misled by his lawyers instead of accepting the loss in the rap battle.

Between Cole’s hunger to prove he’s still the best and Drake’s massive legal war with his own label, hip hop is in a state of total transformation. J. Cole is rapping like he has nothing to lose—but for Drake and Kendrick, the stakes have never been higher.

What do you think? Is J. Cole’s new mixtape enough to make us forget the beef? And does Drake have a point with his lawsuit? Let us know in the comments below.
